Every July, the Generali Open de France brings the French pony championships, then the club championships, to the Parc équestre fédéral in Lamotte-Beuvron. Beds close to the showground go first. This guide compares the options and explains how to run your week from Romorantin-Lanthenay, 43 min (41 km) away.
When are the pony and club sessions?
The event takes place in July, in two sessions a few days apart. In 2026, the pony session ran from 4 to 12 July and the club session from 18 to 26 July.
Ponies open the month, clubs close it. Each rider only attends on the days of their discipline, so find those on the schedule before you book. At the time of writing (October 2026), the 2027 dates are not yet shown on the official Generali Open de France website. Check them before you commit to anything.
When should you book accommodation for the Open de France?
As soon as the dates of your session are published. The beds nearest the showground disappear first, then the search spreads to neighbouring towns.
Book for the full length of your classes, including the night before: arriving a day early saves you from doing the drive and the course walk on the same morning. If you are travelling from the UK or the Netherlands, pick an option with clear cancellation terms in case your club's schedule changes.
What are the accommodation options for the Generali Open de France?
There are three: sleeping on the showground, in or near Lamotte-Beuvron, or in a cottage 30 to 45 min away. Each has its drawbacks.
- Camping on the showground. Clubs book pitches there. You are a walk from the stables and arenas, but nights are short, comfort depends on your own kit and pitches go early.
- Hotels and rentals nearby. There are few in Lamotte-Beuvron and they fill up well in advance. The federation publishes a list of local lodgings for clubs without a pitch.
- Center Parcs Les Hauts de Bruyères. The resort is in Chaumont-sur-Tharonne, near Lamotte-Beuvron. Stays follow its own booking patterns: see the Center Parcs website.
- A cottage 30 to 45 min away. You get a proper house, real beds, a kitchen and quiet nights. In return you drive twice a day and the horses stay stabled at the showground.
Our cottage falls into that last group. It houses people, not horses: there are no stables and no paddock. For the route and what the house offers a team, read our guide to rider accommodation near Lamotte-Beuvron.
How do you organise a championship week from a cottage?
Build everything around the class schedule, then add the drive. From Romorantin, allow 43 min to reach the showground.
- The evening before: lay out kit, paperwork and breakfast.
- Morning: leave with a margin for parking and the walk to the stables. In 2026, the day car park for clubs staying off site was free and open from 7 am to 8 pm, with advance registration.
- Lunch: bring a cold meal made at the house, or eat on site.
- Evening: dinner at the cottage whenever suits you, then an early night.
- Days without a class: stay in Romorantin or explore the Sologne.
For those free days, our surroundings page lists outings by driving time, and the regional events calendar is on the Sologne Tourisme website.
Why stay in Romorantin during the Open de France?
To sleep in a whole house 43 min (41 km) from the showground, away from the bustle of the site. The drive follows the D922 then the D923, with no toll.
The house sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms (2 double beds, 2 single beds), with 1 bathroom. The fitted kitchen suits meals at odd hours, private parking is free, and bed linen and towels are provided. The enclosed garden and the terrace with a barbecue work well for team evenings, and pets are welcome.
Check-in is from 5 pm and check-out before 10 am. Allow €130 a night for 4 guests, taxes and fees included. See rates and July availability, or write to us with any specific question.
